Spring Concerts This Week!
Our Instrumental Music ensembles will perform at spring concerts this week.
This Friday, May 12th will feature our Concert Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra ensembles.
Monday, May 15th will feature our Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble.
Thursday, May 18th will feature our Lab Jazz and Studio A Jazz Ensembles.
All concerts will start at 7pm in the West Ranch Theater. Tickets will be $10 per person for each concert.
Booster Meeting - this Wednesday
Please join us for the next meeting of the West Ranch Music Boosters on Wednesday at 7pm in the band/orchestra room. We will no longer be holding the meetings via zoom as the district will no longer be covering our zoom subscription. This meeting will also be open to incoming freshmen parents and we hope to have a great turn out!
Graduation - May 24th
West Ranch graduation will be held on May 24th at 7pm at College of the Canyons. All students (excluding seniors) who are in Concert Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band (percussion excluded), Symphonic Band (percussion excluded), and Wind Ensemble will perform at the ceremony. Call time is 6pm at the College of the Canyons stadium. More information will be distributed closer to the event.

Spring Concerts Start Next Week!

Fundraising Shoutout
A huge thank you to Terri Harrah for working hard to secure a $10,000 grant for our music program with Kathryn Barger’s Office. We appreciate the help to raise funds to support opportunities for our students!

Music Banquet - This Wednesday!
We will hold our annual music banquet at the Odyssey in Granada Hills this Wednesday, April 26th. The semi-formal event is a fun experience for students and parents to celebrate the year in West Ranch Music. We hope to see you there!

Winter Percussion Results
The West Ranch High School Percussion Program competed in the most competitive circuit and highest division any high school can obtain: In the Percussion Scholastic Concert World Division, the Wildcats performed their hearts out, and it resulted in their highest score of the season. It was a 96.250. Earning them the Gold Medal, crowing them CHAMPIONS now back to back years. They officially have the highest score in the nation/world two years in a row. The week prior to spring break, the Wildcats too traveled to the Nevada State Finals, where they were crowned State Champs as well.
Winter Color Guard Results
The Winterguard had a fabulous run on Saturday at WGASC Championships Prelims, earning a Silver Medal in the round with a score of 88.90. This is an amazing accomplishment, especially since they were promoted to a higher class mid-season!
The team then went on to score a 90.24 in Championships Finals (the highest score they have achieved in the past few years) and earned 4th place. We are incredibly proud of our Color Guard team!

Winter Programs Results
The West Ranch Winterguard competed in the WGASC competition this past Saturday at Valencia HS. Their beautiful performance earned them 1st place in General Effect, 1st place in Equipment and 1st place overall. The overall score of 83.8 is their highest score of the season. Their next and final competition will be the WGASC Finals at Bren Events Center in Irvine on 4/22 and 4/23.
Both the Winterguard and the Winter Percussion participated in the WGASC Nevada Signature Show Championships in Henderson, NV. Winterguard, in their new division, were awarded the Bronze medal with an impressive score of 82.56. Winter Percussion Concert World with its artistry and musicianship, earned a Gold medal with a score of 95.90. Winter Percussion World Marching Ensemble earned a score of 83.85 and were also awarded a Gold medal for their performance.

Winter Showcase - next Tuesday
There will be a Winter Programs Showcase on Tuesday, April 18th, at 7:30pm in the WR Main Gym. This is a free event. Performances will include:
“Heart of Darkness” - Winter Concert Percussion
“Everybody Hurts” - Winterguard
“I Am” - Winter Marching Percussion
We ask that attendees not arrive before 7:15 to allow the students to prepare for the performances.

Booster Meeting - Wednesday
Please join us for the next meeting of the West Ranch Music Boosters on Wednesday at 7pm in the band/orchestra room. We have a lot of events (especially this month!) and are always looking for more volunteers to help! Please check your email for the Zoom link to join the meeting.
Volunteers Needed!
Our two day Band and Orchestra Festival is coming up on Tuesday, March 28th and Wednesday, March 29th hosted at West Ranch. 36 different bands and orchestras attend this event and we need as many volunteers as possible for it to run smoothly! Please check your email for the SignUp Genius links (one for parents and one for students).
West Ranch Music Letterman Jackets
West Ranch Instrumental Music is now offering Letterman Jackets! The deadline to order one for this semester is this Wednesday March 8th. Click here for more information on how to order.
Music Program Raffle
All students should have received the raffle tickets last week or today. The letter inside of the ticket envelope explains all of the details on the raffle. Tickets sell for $10 each and each student is asked to sell 10 tickets. There is also a free chips and drink coupon for a Firehouse Subs Sandwich on the back!
All students who sell all 10 of their tickets will receive a $5 In-N-Out gift card! Also, students will earn points (double points up to Friday, March 10th) for the student incentive drawing to win a $300 apple or amazon gift card with all sales up until the morning of Friday, March 24th. The raffle drawing will take place on Friday, March 24th during the Band Showcase Concert, so all ticket stubs and funds will need to be turned in prior to that time.
Every year this fundraiser brings in over $7,000 for the music program! Thank you all for your help in this effort.
Winter Percussion Results
Congratulations to Winter Percussion for earning first place in both the Concert World and Marching World divisions at their debut show on Sunday! Their next show will be this Sunday, March 12th at Great Oaks HS in Temecula. Thank you to all of our parents for your support!

The Annual Raffle fundraiser begins this week.

Band and Orchestra Festival Planning Meeting - Tonight
Calling any interested volunteers! Suzanne Adel is hosting a festival planning meeting tonight. Every year West Ranch Music hosts a two day festival where over 30 different groups from Southern California come to receive feedback and a rating from adjudicators. This is a fantastic educational event and fundraiser for West Ranch Music! If you are interested in helping, please call Suzanne at (847) 830-0014 as soon as possible.
Winterguard Results
Congratulations to the Winter Color Guard team for earning first place at their competition on Saturday with a score of 71.15. They had an amazing show under tough circumstances and even had the highest score of the day across all divisions!
Honor Band Rehearsal - This Friday
Just a reminder for those students who were selected for the Hart District honor band, your next rehearsal is this Friday, March 3rd at Hart HS. The Friday practice will take place in the band room right off of Newhall Ave. Students must be seated by 8:15am and should arrive no later than 8am to allow time for parking. Rehearsal will end at 4pm. I will take care of emailing all student absences to the attendance office for the students to be excused on Friday. Students, please bring your school ID with you this day. Campus Supervisors at Hart will not be allowing anyone on campus who does not have an ID with them.

Winterguard Performance - Tonight!
Family and Friends are all invited to the Winterguard’s Preview performance of “Everybody Hurts”. Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the WRHS Main Gym. Doors will open at 8:15 with the performance to start at 8:30. There is no cost to enter.

Hart District Honor Band Audition Information
Hart District Honor Band auditions will be held this Friday, January 27th and Saturday, January 28th (times attached) at La Mesa Junior High School. Audition music and instructions have been posted on google classroom. Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band students are required to audition and Concert Band students may choose to audition but are not required.
Spring Raffle Donations
Our spring raffle fundraiser is just around the corner and we are looking for any families that may have potential prizes they would like to donate. Examples would include tickets to sporting events, theme park tickets, tickets to The Magic Castle, or anything else that could be a great prize! If you do have something you think would be a great addition to our prize pool please send me an email.
Food Night Fundraiser - Monday Feb 20th
The next fundraiser will be at Sharky's Mexican Grill on Monday, Feb. 20th. From 11am to 8pm, Sharky's will donate 20% of your order back to the music program.

Our Studio A Jazz Band will be performing holiday and pop/rock music this Thursday at 3pm at the Westfield Valencia Town Center. The band will be playing outside of the food court entrance next to Slaters 50/50 and would love to see you there!

The Jazz Ensembles will perform this Friday, December 2nd at 7pm, Orchestras will perform next Thursday, December 8th at 7pm, and Bands will perform next Friday, December 9th at 7pm all in the West Ranch Theater. Tickets are $10, West Ranch/Rancho Pico students are free!
Championships Recap
Our marching band had their best performance at state championships on Saturday and went up against some of the toughest competitors in the state of any band size. They took 5th in the state and we’re only 1 point away from 2nd place due to all of the scores being extremely close! They earned 2nd place in music and percussion. We are all very proud of the huge growth and improvement that the band and color guard have achieved this season!
Another huge thank you to everyone who made this season possible. We couldn’t have done it without the help from our supportive booster parents!
What happens after Marching Band?
For our freshman students and parents, I'm sure it has seemed like a crazy busy year so far, and you are probably wondering what comes next. Now that our season has concluded, there will be no more Marching Band practices or classes for the rest of the semester. Rest up and study for finals!
Our "sit down" ensembles (concert bands, jazz bands, orchestras) will continue to rehearse during the day in preparation for our winter concerts (see above for more information).
For those that are continuing on to the winter guard and winter percussion seasons, you will have schedules and information communicated to you from Esther and Julio.
For everyone else, things will lighten up tremendously! Our concert groups will continue to put on great performances, but will not have any night or weekend commitments. Our jazz bands will have some jazz festivals on Saturdays in the spring semester, and Mr. Leff will communicate that in a separate email.

The West Ranch Wildcat Marching Band won Sweepstakes (the highest possible honor) at the Valencia Field Tournament on Friday. The band took sweepstakes in Music Performance, Music Effect, Visual Effect, Visual Performance, Color Guard, and Overall Band.
The Marching Band then went on to compete at the Moorpark tournament the very next day earning first place in all captions, earning high music performance, and scoring the highest they have all season with a 87.35! We have officially earned a spot at championships this coming Saturday.
We are incredibly proud of our hard-working students! A huge thank you to all our parent volunteers - we cannot do what we do without you!
Marching Band and Color Guard Schedule This Week
Our hard working students have made it to championships! This will be our final week of the season.
Tuesday - Marching Band Practice 5pm-9pm
Thursday - Marching Band Practice 5pm-8:15pm, Senior Recognition 8:30pm (ceremony on the field and sweet treats afterward)
Saturday - Championships in Riverside (please refer to the email for more detailed information)
Championship Apparel Preorders
SCSBOA is currently accepting preorders for championships apparel from now until 8am on Friday. If you preorder, they will have your order available for pick up at the championship tournament on Saturday. Dear Students and Parents,
Hart Rampage Tournament Recap
The West Ranch Wildcat Marching Band won Sweepstakes (the highest possible honor) at the Hart Rampage Field Tournament on Saturday. They scored higher than all 30 other bands competing! The band took sweepstakes in Music, General Effect, Percussion, Color Guard, and Overall Band. We are incredibly proud of our hard-working students! A huge thank you to all our parent volunteers - we couldn’t have had a successful performance without you!
Marching Band and Color Guard Schedule This Week
This will be our busiest week of the season! There is no school on Friday but we will have two performances - the competition at Valencia HS and a home playoff game at Valencia HS. This will be the last playoff game that the full band will attend regardless of the outcome.
Once again to make things as easy as possible on our parent volunteers we are:

Releasing students leave immediately after the halftime performance.

Senior Night - November 17th
We will be honoring our marching band and color guard seniors on Thursday, November 17th at 8:30pm on the West Ranch field. There will be a ceremony with the seniors and immediate family members followed by sweet treats for everyone.
Concert Attire Reminder
Our December band concerts are fast approaching. Please make sure each student has their concert dress or tuxedo ready to wear and take care of any alterations needed as soon as possible.

Mt. Carmel Tournament Recap
Congratulations to the West Ranch Marching Band for taking 2nd place in 5A Band, 1st place in Auxiliary, and 2nd place in overall percussion this weekend! Our students participated in a highly competitive tournament in San Diego and were only 0.3 points from first place! A huge thank you to all our parent volunteers - we couldn’t have had a successful trip without you!

Discount Fundraiser
This is the final week for our discount fundraiser! Students should have created an account to sell nation-wide discount coupons with friends and family. We are working toward a $10,000 fundraising goal and are currently around a third of the way there. We ask that all students help us reach that goal.
